Lately, I've been playing a lot of Super Mario Bros. I bought it on the virtual console for the Wii and it uses the wireless wiimote (as opposed to having to plug in the Gamecube controller, which is a pain) so that's been my new "I'm tired of reading about that dickhead Mr. Casaubon" thing. It's great because I just put our iTunes library on shuffle and listen to whatever pops up while I play. I noticed - awhile back - that inevitably at most every five songs and often times every two songs, a Modest Mouse song comes on. I mean, it makes sense - we have practically every Modest Mouse album, plus some live stuff, so we are bound to him them more often than other bands with only 1 or 2 albums. However, the weird part is that for bands like Radiohead, the Flaming Lips, and Sparklehorse, of which we also own multiple albums, do not follow the Modest Mouse rule. If anything, we're lucky to hit one song of any of theirs on any given go.
Thus, the mystery of Modest Mouse on shuffle continues. I get 10 points every time on of their songs come up - last night I think I earned myself about 60 points in an hour-and-a-half. The points are indicative of how I'm winning but at what and why, no one really knows.
I also get ten points every time I correctly identify a film on television that I've never seen before in the first 5 seconds of flipping to it. I get five points for the same thing if I have seen it before.
I am the only person who follows these rules and it only involves me yelling " Ten points!" and pumping my fist in the air, while Casey absentmindedly tells me good job.
